Gurgaon - The Millennium City

Gurgaon City

Gurgaon in the northern Indian State of Haryana, was earlier known to be a sleepy town on the suburbs of the Capital City, Delhi. Once a parched land Gurgaon, is now a sought after destination. With worldclass and unparagoned shopping malls inundating the city, excellent properties and state-of-the-art offices have given Delhi, the capital of the nation, a run for its money.

Gurgaon bustles in the present day and has become one of the most preferred choices for upcoming companies settling up in Delhi. GE, Sapient, Bata, Benetton, Coca Cola, Pepsi, New York Life, Baxter, Wipro, Nestle are there and more are coming in. Situated on the highway from Delhi to Jaipur, which is on the verge to become the busiest with the government of both the states putting in efforts for economic growth and infrastructure expansion.

Now, Gurgaon is on its verge to become a hi-tech city, accounting for a substantial portion of the nation's investments and profits, both in the public and private sector. The new Gurgaon Master Plan 2021 will give a boost to bits makeover from a developing city to a fully developed one.

The eight lane toll expressway between Gurgaon and the Capital city operational in April 2007 will provide Gurgaon with the fast connectivity to all major places including Delhi International airport and Dhaula Kuan in Delhi over a distance of 28 kilometers, and include 7 flyovers and 5 underpasses along the stretch.

Quality of life in the privately owned estates in Gurgaon is something that attracts high middle class people to look towards to have a permanent home in the city. Offering an enticing array of facilities, Gurgaonites enjoy an exclusive lifestyle with no hassles at all. Water supply, electricity supply, guarded security, common area maintenance and sanitation are the factors being a de-facto norm than an exception. Road layout in Gurgaon has apparently improved; it is of much better quality as compared to the other big and influential cities of the country.

Population

Gurgaon's district population has increased from some 870,539 in census 2001 to 1,514,085 in census 2011.

Gurgaon District

Gurgaon district comprises five blocks:  Badshahpur, Pataudi, Sohna, , Gurgaon village, and Farrukhnagar. On its north, it is bounded by the district of  Jhajjar  and Delhi  Faridabad  District lies to its east. On its south, the district shares boundaries with the Mewat District.   To its west lies the Rewari District and the  Rajasthan state. Gurgaon city is situated at the northern edge  of Mountain Range.  The length of the district is about 21 km and the breadth is 27 km.
Northern Peripheral road is being developed under the public private partnership (PPP) model. This stretch will connect  Dwarka with National Highway 8 at Kherki Dhaula and will pass Pataudi Road. The NPR stretch has been planned as an alternate link road between Delhi and Gurgaon, and is expected to ease the traffic situation on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The road will also provide connectivity to the much-touted Reliance-HSIIDC SEZ besides the Garhi Hasaru dry depot. Much like Delhi, Gurgaon too will have a BRT corridor to decongest traffic on the Northern Peripheral Road. In several sections, the NPR will have provisions for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor to ensure smooth flow. The road will be fully developed in March 2012.

Gurgaon Sectors

The Hi-Tech City is all set to grow spatially. The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and the Town and Country Planning department are planning to develop as many as 58 new sectors. The fresh spate of development will stretch the city towards Badshahpur and Sohna townships located towards the south. The process of acquiring land for the project is underway, sources said. As of now, 1,417 acres of land are being acquired from eight villages for the first-phase of work under which 10 sectors (58 to 67) will be developed. While Sectors 58 to 63 will be residential,Sectors 65,66 and 67 will be residential-cum-commercial areas. This is being done in accordance with the Gurgaon-Manesar Masterplan-2021, which has a provision for developing as many as 115 sectors in the city.
